Who the hell am I?!
Born in the city 1963, we lived in Brixton Hill south London. It
all gets a bit messy after that. My dad was a semi pro guitarist
and singer in the 60s, and my mother stills plays bass in a duo
with my step dad, and doesn't hide the fact she has a bus pass,
and still gets more gigs than me.
I find myself in Dublin Ireland, why? I'm often asked. Adventure,
something new. I left London with my van a bag of cloths and a drum
kit, I don’t regret a thing. I've played in a great deal of
bands since I left home at 18, which was Cornwall at the time, a
misinformed green young man. Experiences have been many, four record
deals, wild tours all over the planet from pop to hard core punk
to Electro dance to tribute silliness, it goes on.
Sister Sledge was a big funky experience that made me pull my socks
up, a white boy from south London never done or felt something quit
as funky. Now most of the time I work as a hired gun, in up to 5
different bands a week, The Ben Prevo Band keeps me busy, his own
brand of blues & funk & what he likes to call American folk,
we are around Dublin town most weeks.
FUNKYHEAD RECORDS.
A little thing I started up in July 2003 to release a CD called
RIMSHOT DADDY by my good self, A funky, jazzy, tribal, thing going
on, of which theirs is more info in this website. Started it all
in London when I met this bloke (Sean) in a copy shop in Coldharbor
lane Brixton. I was sorting a cover for some songs I'd done, two
of which are on the CD. We fell out after a few months cant even
remember why now (too much red bull didn't help) we did one good
tune haven't seen him since, even the master DAT was wiped, so the
only version I had was on cassette tape which is what I had to use.
Donnermead Co Dublin was the venue for the rest of the recordings,
with a long break in the middle because I went off to the U.S.A.
to make a record & returned broke & homeless. Nothing ventured
nothing gained.
I just hope the ears hold out.
